MEET OUR Doctors

Dr. Heather

Dr. Heather is one of Blue Lake Animal Hospital’s Senior Veterinarians and co-founder of the hospital. She is married to our Senior Veterinarian, Dr. Will, and they have 3 children. Dr. Heather graduated from Michigan State University with her veterinary degree. She has a passion for reproductive medicine and working with pocket pets and exotic pets. The doctors have several pets, including Lincoln, an English Bulldog that they raised from day 1 due to him being born with a cleft palate. After being hand raised and recovering from surgery to repair the cleft palate, Lincoln is now a sweet, spoiled, healthy dog with a tendency to be naughty but loved all the more. Pickles is their 100 pound+ Great Pyrenees who is sweet and loves all people. The doctors love Frenchie’s and Bulldogs! She also owns a French Bulldog named Poppy who is Pickles’ best friend. Their family also includes a parakeet named Sweetie Bird. Her hobbies include baking, gardening, and crochet.

Dr. William

Dr. William is one of our Senior Veterinarians and co-founder of Blue Lake Animal Hospital. Dr. Will combines a deep passion for medicine and surgical procedures with a love for nature and for animals. He majored in Biology at Calvin College. He completed his veterinary training at Ross University and internship at Michigan State University. Dr. Will specializes in orthopedic surgery and enjoys working with the variety of patients we see, except for snakes. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his children and working on his sport car. He has 3 kids currently and is married to our other Co-founder, Dr. Heather. Lincoln is his English Bulldog and is Dr. Will’s favorite dog.

Dr. Maycie

Dr. Maycie is our associate veterinarian at Blue Lake Animal Hospital. She was raised in West Michigan, graduated from Michigan State University and is excited to be back in the area to practice medicine! Dr. Maycie had worked as a veterinary assistant in small animal practice for several years while pursuing her veterinary education. After her internship at Blue Lake, she joined the team as an associate veterinarian. In her free time, she enjoys baking and reading and traveling. She owns a deaf Boston Terrier named Wilbur that is very energetic.

Joyce

Joyce is a full-time receptionist at Blue Lake Animal Hospital. Joyce has worked in the veterinary medical field for over 28 years! She began as an Animal Care Specialist while she served in the United States Army taking care of military dogs for six years. She continued her career as a veterinary assistant, and most recently, as our receptionist who also willingly lends a hand wherever we need her. Joyce and her husband, Alan, own a hobby farm where they raise rabbits, chickens, ducks and, from time to time, German Shepherd puppies. They have two children and four grandchildren. Joyce and Alan own a Harley motorcycle which they love to take touring around Michigan. Thank you, Joyce for your military service and for being an enthusiastic member of the Blue Lake team!

Marion

Marion is Blue Lake Animal Hospital’s office manager. She fills this role doing a wide variety of tasks with the goal of keeping the clinic running efficiently and smoothly. Her main focus is on helping to create an exceptional environment where patients and the families that love them will have the very best care and experience top customer service. Marion is married to her husband, Howard, and they have 6 children, one of whom is our very own Dr. Will! She and Howard have two beloved dogs and a cat. Outside of work Marion enjoys travelling around Michigan and spending time with family. A fun fact about Marion is that she is a fan of collecting Legos! According to Marion, the best part of working at Blue Lake Animal Hospital are the fantastic staff. She states that it is a true pleasure to work alongside skilled professionals who are passionate about what they do and the patients and families they serve. Blue Lake Animal Hospital is a fast-paced, busy environment and the staff truly come together as a family to not only make the clinic successful, but to welcome our patients and families as part of our family as well.

Mia

Mia is a full-time receptionist at Blue Lake Animal Hospital. Mia brings a lot of experience to the Blue Lake team. She is married to husband Scott and has two children. They also have a fur family that includes a dog and two cats, “Sen, the princess, and Norman, a talkative goofball!” Mia earned a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Biology from Grand Valley State University. Her love of animals has led her to work in veterinary medicine for many years, where she currently works in the front reception greeting, assisting and helping clients. Mia is proficient in answering client questions, navigating the computer system, scheduling appointments, and managing myriad details. She additionally has trained on the job to help as a veterinary assistant when we need an extra pair of hands. Mia enjoys working with people, making friends, and getting to know our clients and patients. A fun fact about Mia is her love for live music and concerts. She has seen the Dave Matthews Band live in-person 18 times!

Micah

Micah is our full-time veterinary assistant at Blue Lake Animal Hospital. Micah is married and has two twins! The family also includes three dogs and Patrick, a 2-year-old Quarter horse. She works alongside the doctors’ assisting patients in exam rooms, as well as filling multiple roles in our treatment area where she fills prescriptions, draws up meds and vaccines, obtains blood samples, works with patients, and so on. She enjoys grooming rabbits, can calm the most anxious pets, and receives the respect of even the largest dogs despite her own petite size. Micah grew up knowing she wanted to work with animals. Her experiences include working with cows and pigs on a farm and owning and showing horses with her mom. She has received multiple World Titles from horse showing. After graduation, she began working at a veterinary clinic and joined Doctors Will and Heather when they started Blue Lake Animal Hospital. Micah enjoys being part of the Blue Lake Animal Hospital team where the staff has fun together while giving their work their all.

John

John is our operations manager here at Blue Lake Animal Hospital. You may recognize John from up front as he worked reception for a little over a year. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, disc golfing, hanging out with friends, and working on projects like his Go-Kart. John takes care of two pets; Teddy a Golden Retriever who loves people, and a Dobermann named Thomas, who is a naughty, energetic puppy. “I like being a part of the Blue Lake team because of our close-knit culture but also our shared passion for service and for pets.” John is a current student who is majoring in Finance and is looking to transfer to GVSU.

Julia

Julia is a part-time receptionist at Blue Lake Animal Hospital. She loves greeting clients and their beloved pets and working as part of a fantastic reception team. Julia has been happily married to her husband, Doug for over 40 years and has four adult daughters, three sons-in-law, and six grandchildren! She is originally from Chicago and grew up in Southern California, but now is happy to call West Michigan home for the last 42 years. She graduated from Calvin College with an English/History degree and then homeschooled all four of her daughters from kindergarten through high school. Her family has had many dogs and cats over the years (briefly breeding Cocker Spaniels) and loves all animals. Julia especially enjoys birdwatching in their back yard nature preserve. Julia and her husband are very involved in their church and in her spare time, she is an avid knitter, crafter, reader, and chef. She and her husband love to travel and have been to Africa five times as well as Indonesia. Julia joined vet-med because she loves animals and working with clients.

Trinity

Trinity is a full-time receptionist at Blue Lake Animal Hospital. Trinity is eager to welcome visitors and their pets at the entrance and provide them with the necessary assistance. She says: “I was raised in a family that deeply cherishes animals, I am fortunate to have three furry friends: two dogs named Otis and Benji, and a cat named Rico.” Outside of work she loves spending time with her family, going on motorcycle rides with her boyfriend, and attending speedway events. “Working at Blue Lake Animal Hospital has instilled in me a profound sense of belonging to a supportive and collaborative team. I am consistently delighted to arrive at work each day, knowing that we have a strong team and a loyal customer base.” A fun fact about Trinity is that she has wanted to become a Veterinarian since Kindergarten.

Kaitlyn

Kaitlyn is our full-time veterinary receptionist here at Blue Lake Animal Hospital. Animals are Kaitlyn’s biggest passion. She says: “I have known ever since I was little that I wanted to work with them!” Kaitlyn has two cats, a polydactyl kitty named Penelope (pictured), and a Siamese named Cleo. Her goal is to gain the experience to be able to go to veterinary school and someday become a doctor! In her free time, she enjoys hiking and fishing and being outdoors.

Maddy

Maddy is our full-time veterinary receptionist here at Blue Lake Animal Hospital. Maddy is the oldest daughter of 4 kids. Maddy owns a 10-year-old Poodle named Cooper. In her free time, she enjoys riding horses, dirt bikes, being outdoors and baking/cooking. She also enjoys going to silver lake dunes and spending time with her boyfriend. Maddy grew up with horses and owned two of her own and she acquired her equine assisted learning certification. She graduated from GRCC with an associates in human services. Maddy choose vet med because she loves the busy atmosphere and learning about the care of Animals! Maddy likes being a part of the Blue Lake team because she gets to see many different types of animals, and she says, “you never know what will walk in the door.

Debbie

Debbie is our part-time veterinary receptionist here at Blue Lake Animal Hospital. Debbie lives in the Caledonia area with her husband of 43 years and a cute 11-month-old Cocker Spaniel puppy named Buckley. When not trying out new recipes, Debbie likes to take long walks with her husband and with Buckley. In her free time, she enjoys reading and spending time with her 3 children and 4 grandchildren. She also enjoys going to new places and trying new foods. Debbie worked in dental offices and as a school secretary for many years. This is her first adventure in a vet clinic, and she is enjoying the experience so much! She loves seeing the pets and interacting with the pet owners. Debbie states that working with the staff and the Doctors at Blue Lake Animal Hospital is a privilege and a pleasure. They are her friends and her Colleagues. One fun fact about Debbie is that she lived in France in the 1980’s; two of her children were born there and then she went back and lived there again from 2017-2023. Parlez- vous francais?

Lindsey

Lindsey is our full-time veterinary assistant here at Blue Lake Animal Hospital. Lindsey grew up in a Family with a brother and sister. Lindsey in her spare time enjoys hiking, running, hanging out with friends and family, and generally being outdoors. She went to Thornapple Kellogg High School, and she joined vet med because she loves animals and caring for them. She likes to give animals a chance to be heard and have a voice. Lindsey likes being a part of the Blue Lake Team because “of the family atmosphere and having people who care and work hard.” A fun fact about Lindsey is that she is has been out of the country 4 times!

Kate

Kate is our veterinary assistant here at Blue Lake Animal Hospital. Kate owns a Rottweiler, Basset mix named Jango. In her free time, she enjoys playing pickleball, golf, traveling, and exploring new ideas, and hanging out with friends. Kate graduates in December from GVSU with a degree in Biology and a minor in Business. In her time at GVSU, Kate did lots of different research with stingrays, freshwater mussels, sturgeon, and sharks! Kate’s favorite part of working for the Blue Lake team is the team itself. A fun fact about Kate is that she has caught an 8-foot Hammerhead shark! (for research purposes!)

Gabby

Gabby is our veterinary assistant here at Blue Lake Animal Hospital. She owns a 4-year-old German Shepard named Beau, and an 8-year-old bearded dragon named scooter. Gabby’s hobbies include snowboarding, fishing, and reading. In her spare time, she spends a lot of time up north at the lake with my family and friends or going walking with my dog. Gabby is originally from the east side of Michigan. Gabby is currently pursuing a bachelor’s in biology at GVSU. Gabby choose vet-med because of her large passion for animals and medicine. Gabby likes working for the Blue Lake Team, and she says, “I love how close everyone is here and how willing everyone is to learn and teach each other.”

Kiara

Kiara is our veterinary assistant here at Blue Lake Animal Hospital. Kiara shares her life with three wonderful cats: Sabrina, Gino, and Luka, and a loveable dog named Heidi. “I rescued Sabrina and Luka when they were just four days old, and they’ve been a joy in my life ever since.” When Kiara is not caring for animals, she enjoys reading, hanging out with friends, and watching scary movies. She also enjoys spending quality time with her family and playing video games with her boyfriend Micheal. She previously rode horses for ten years and was a member for her high school equestrian team, which deepened her love for animals and advocacy. Kiara is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree on the pre-veterinary track at Calvin. “Becoming a veterinarian has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember, and I’ve worked hard to get where I am today.” “At Blue Lake Animal Hospital, my favorite part of the job is the incredible team I work with and the amazing clients and patients I get to interact with. Every day is a new opportunity to make a difference in the lives of animals and their owners. I’m excited to continue my journey in veterinary medicine and to contribute to the well-being of animals in our community!”

Cady

Cady is our veterinary assistant here at Blue Lake Animal Hospital here. Cady has three horses named Boogy, Flynn, and Jack. “Boogie is the reason that I love animals! My family has always had animals around in my childhood, but Boogy and my past dog Misty inspired me towards a career in the animal related fields.” Cady Grew up in a large family and has eight siblings and two family dogs named Ruger and Romeo. Cady is going to Baker College and is Pursuing her associates degree with the aspiration to become a licensed veterinary technician. Cady likes working with the Blue Lake Team because of the people she works with. A fun fact about Cady is that she loves riding horses bareback, without a saddle.
