Reproductive Care

How We Can Help

There are many different goals for reproductive care with pets.  For animals like stray cats and dogs, we want to keep their population from expanding too much with spay and neuter programs.  For pets that are not going to be used for breeding, we recommend spaying and neutering them at an appropriate age to reduce certain health conditions, cancers, and behavior issues.  Other pet owners have animals with the intention of breeding their pets.

You may have tried to breed your pets at home but without much success or simply have questions about the breeding process. If this has been your case, a qualified veterinarian at Blue Lake Animal Hospital can help. Our team of skilled veterinary professionals knows how to troubleshoot even the most challenging fertility issues. We can help you and your pet throughout the entire process from breeding to delivery to weaning. Keep reading to learn more about how we can help you and your pet with reproductive care.

Breeding dogs and cats can come with challenges or lots of questions. At Blue Lake Animal Hospital we are here to help answer your questions and help your pet have a successful pregnancy and delivery, as well as providing neonatal care. Some of the ways our experienced team of veterinary professional can assist your pets to reproduce successfully include:

  • Artificial Insemination (AI) – If natural mating is not preferred or possible, we may advise you to consider artificial insemination. This may be the safest breeding method for some dogs. AI is a breeding method in which semen is introduced directly into the female pet uterus without any sexual activity.
  • Best Time To Breed – Our veterinarians can help you to determine the right time to breed your pet. We offer in-house progesterone testing to help determine ovulation and the ideal time to breed your pet. We will also discuss other factors to consider when deciding when is the right time to breed your pet.
  • Neonatal Care – Unfortunately there are times when puppies or kittens are not thriving or become ill. Our experienced vets will help you by providing excellent nursing care and advice.
  • Male/Female Pet Fertility – Professional veterinarians are trained to perform complete male/female fertility exams to determine whether your pets have fertility abnormalities that need to be managed. In case of any issue, they will advise you on the best treatment plans.

Our qualified team at Blue Lake Animal Hospital provides several reproductive care services including:
