EMERGENCIES

Unfortunately, emergency situations can happen. While we all do our best to prevent an accident, being prepared to react quickly is important if a sudden injury or illness happens. We value our clients and want to provide the highest standard of care for them. If the accident, injury, or illness happens during our business hours, call us at 616-554-0400 right away and be sure to inform whoever answers that it is an emergency. Our staff will consult a doctor and advise you with the best way to help your pet and the situation at hand. We can give advice on what you can immediately do for you pet to help them and how you can get them safely to the clinic or an emergency hospital for care. Some emergencies are best treated at an emergency hospital, and we can help direct you to the best place of treatment for your pet.

Emergency Situations:

  • Bleeding that does not stop with gentle pressure after 5-10 minutes
  • Vomiting and cannot keep any food or water down
  • Straining to urinate or defecate
  • Blood in urine, rectum, mouth, coughing up blood
  • Hit by car
  • Injury or trauma to the eyes
  • Seizures or convulsions that do not stop after 10-15 minutes
  • You know or suspect they have eaten a toxic substance or plant or a foreign object (bone, toy, cloth item, etc.) that could get stuck
  • Obvious signs of extreme anxiety or pain
  • Broken/fractured bones or paralysis of legs
  • Choking, gagging, coughing that doesn’t stop, and difficulty with breathing
  • Heat stroke or signs of heat stress.
  • Won’t drink water for more than 24 hours
  • Pet is unconscious and can’t be woken up
